The siting of the existing residence was at the centre, creating a series of awkward residual spaces that had no relation to climate or occupation. The brief was to increase the size of the residence and retain a sense of landscape. Our strategy for the project was to draw the extension around the perimeter of the site to create a new courtyard and expose the living area to the northern orientation. Through this process an elongated gallery space was created internally for their artwork.
