Antoine Shelter by Bureau A

Commission by the artist residency Verbier 3d Foundation, Swiss architect duo Leopold Banchini and Daniel Zamarbide have created a small mountain shelter which disguises itself as an oversize stone.

Self-built in the village and transported to the high-altitude sculpture park, the small wooden cabin is completely hidden inside the shell of the concrete rock only noticeable by a pair of tiny windows and a recessed doorway.

It big enough for the life of one man, comes equipped with a bed, a fireplace, a window, a stool and a table.

Inspiration from architect:

Inspired by the novel “Derborence” by Swiss writer Charles-Ferdinand Ramuz – the main character Antoine survives seven weeks under the rocks, after the massive rock fall that covered the pastures of the valley of Lucerne in 1714.
