Mimetic House by Dominic Stevens

Located in the rural village of Leitrim County in Western Ireland, just outside the town of Dromahair, the Mimetic house is an invisible building clad in tilted glass that reflects its green surroundings.

Created by architect Dominic Stevens for a pair of the artist couple, this 139 sqm house consists of two parts: a cast-concrete part-buried underground, and a glass pavilion on the upper level, connected by a spiral staircase.

The upper level contains the living and dining spaces, overhangs a hillside, its sharply angled walls reflecting the green grass fields and sky.

The downstairs bathroom and the master and guest bedrooms, a small workstation is tucked into corners in the reinforced concrete.

Inspiration from architect:

Inspired by a retrospective of the artist Dan Graham, the constantly changing landscape alters the house. A momentary angular deformation of the landscape around it, the house sits in its surroundings like a passing shadow.
