Created by architecture firm SOM in partnership with the US Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the AMIE(Additive Manufacturing Integrated Energy) is a 3D-printed pavilion that powered by a closed-loop battery system links with a vehicle.

The building envelope comprises approximately 80 per cent opaque panels and 20 per cent glazing, resulting in a highly efficient enclosure.

Integrated into the roof, flexible photovoltaic panels work in tandem with a natural gas-powered generator located in the vehicle to supply energy for lighting and the central micro-kitchen, which was produced by GE. In addition to supplementing the vehicle energy source, the panels also charge the enclosure’s battery when the fixtures are not in use.
