Casa da Escrita by João Mendes Ribeiro
Inserted in a narrow winding street in dense urban area of Coimbra, the Casa da Escrita is a refurbishment project by Portuguese architect João Mendes Ribeiro, from the former Casa do Arco and residence of the poet João Cochofel.

The building was converted into a House of Writing, the first floor are currently occupied as a library, auditorium and dining room, the noble hall was significantly altered with the full painting, white, ceilings, walls and every piece of wood.
The attic space is occupied by a single room with new roof skylight for individual consultation documentation.

Keeping in essence, the organic complexity in the distribution of the interior spaces, generated by overlapping public and private areas, we utilize, currently of, capable of accommodating diversity of content and activities related to writing large and flexible spaces, as well as spontaneous actions of the inhabitants of the house.
