Created by Mantua-based designer Alessandro Zambelli for Italian manufacturer ExNovo, the Afillia is a collection of three table lamps and three pendant lights all made by professional 3D printing.
The hand-crafted Swiss pine socket fitting locks on to a light diffuser in polyamide sintered by professional 3D printing, the old story of materials used in combination with the innovative technology of sintering.
Delicate, lace-like patterns with their geometrical pinholes give rise to two-dimensional origami in thin, curvaceous spirals. The light casts fleeting shadows forming compact halos, round and bright.
Inspiration from architect:
the collection “Afillia” borrowed from botany. In plant terms, it means leafless, though not lifeless: surely an apt image for a collection of luminous essentials and airy voids.
