Yakushima Takatsuka Lodge by Shigeru Ban

Located at an altitude of 1300m in the National park of Yakushima Island, the Yakushima Takatsuka Lodge is a small refuge cabin that rebuilt on the foundation of the old hut.

Created by Japanese architect Shigeru Ban, this three-story steel frame building clad with paper tube and light through the gap between the tubes.

Inspiration from architect:

The Paper tube wall allows light to pour inside, by filling transparent tubes in-between. Paper tubes can be easily replaced if damaged overtime within the harsh environment of the mountains.
