Located on the village core of Scaiano in the Swiss-Italian border, architect Wespi de meuron has renovated a historic stone house into a comfort home with contemporary interior and original stone walls.

The natural stone masonry was largely maintained, was insulated interior and exterior newly grouted with cement-lime mortar, glass and larch wood framing the stunning vistas of Lago Maggiore.

All wooden beam floors were replaced with concrete slabs, on the main house was a new slant roof in wood construction, and a roof terrace was formed with massive wall parapets and natural stone-paved floor.

The old vaulted cellar has been upgraded to the main entrance: it was split into an unheated entrance hall as pre zone, and heated entrée with cloakroom and shower part in the mountain-side.

Inspiration from architect:

a key architectural goal of the structural intervention was the force of the massive stone walls and the archaic simplicity of the volume of the historic building to work out, and to help to this new charisma. new interventions do not settle contrasting consisted of from, but are, fused together with this, so a new whole arises from old and new.
