Located in the leafy suburb of Willoughby on Sydney’s north shore, House Maher is a new building but deliberately takes the form of 1920s vintage house, and established rear garden with swimming pool.
Rectangle base, a triangle roof and a series of square windows and skylights, architect Hannah Tribe uses simple geometries to create a rich and bright interior world for the wheelchair-bound client and her family.
The external canopies of the recycled brick façade are punched out to emit light to the pool, which is then reflected back into the rooms.
Inspiration from architect:
…the house is a simple gable extruded, clad on the street ends in face brickwork. Internally, the spaces are a playful study in volume and light.
