F House by Hashimoto Yukio Design Studio

Located in the Gion neighborhood in Kyoto, the F House is a two-storey residence with a crisp folded corner in facade looks like a white folded paper or a dog ear.

Designed by Japanese architect Yukio Hashimoto, this house has a simple and modern structure but its essence is in passing on architectural space that is traditional to Japan, such as an internal courtyard hides an inner garden.

Like pure white paper, this building’s facade has a small crease which brings forth images of origami. The simple fold is intended to provide buoyance to the simple wall surface which would otherwise seem closed and weighty.
