One hour drive south of Lisbon, the Casa No Tempo is a low-lying white building with four minimalist rural bedrooms, opening to the unique and peaceful landscape with its vast golden plains of Alentejo.
The 400 sqm sunken swimming pool is a square in the middle of the countryside, reminiscent of the topography of a beach.
After the success of their wooden cabins in Comporta, João and Andreia Rodrigues has renovated an old family farm near the hill top village of Montemor-o-Novo, in partnership with architect Manuel Aires Mateus again.
Inspiration from architect:
The intervention aimed to reclaim the natural beauty of the rural territory and landscape, avoiding a conventional approach by liberating the land.
This was achieved through the construction of three complementing structures. The first step was the restoration of the house, the second structure introduces the element of water in the form of a swimming pool, the third structure takes the shape of a square, labyrinth-like, walled garden.
